Campus Redistricting

Parent Letter

Letter to Parents of Henderson, Lamar, and Scharbauer elementary schools sent 6/21/23

Dear MISD Parents,

MISD is in the process of rezoning the attendance zones that may impact your child’s campus. The goal is to promote good schools where students can be proud to attend schools in their own neighborhoods, and parents can be assured that their child is receiving a high-quality education in a safe and secure environment.

The proposed rezoning will impact Henderson, Lamar, and Scharbauer elementary schools.  These changes will not impact feeder patterns for junior highs or high schools.

One of the major benefits of consolidating attendance zones around neighborhood schools is reducing the total travel time for students on school buses. Some of the advantages include:

  • Improved punctuality and attendance rates

  • More time for other activities or time with family and not sitting on the bus

  • Increase family engagement, which can lead to a positive impact and improved academic performance.

  • Cost-effective: shorter routes, less fuel and maintenance on buses

Want to stay at your current campus? You can apply for a transfer via Apply Midland at midlandisd.net/apply.

  • Transfers for students entering the 6th grade will be prioritized if they choose to stay at their current campus.

  • Note that students who do not attend their zoned-school do not receive district-provided transportation (except in cases of SPED accommodation).

  • Younger siblings will be required to apply for transfers separately.

The rezoning plan will be discussed during the June 26 school board meeting. If approved, we will host information meetings for all impacted families.

  • Information Sessions:

    • Tuesday, June 27 at 4:30 Lamar Elementary

    • Thursday, June 29 at 4:30 Henderson Elementary
