Midland ISD continues streak of Superior FIRST ratings

Office of Financial Services marks sixth-straight A grade for accountability

October 20, 2023 — The Midland ISD Office of Financial Services has again earned the highest rating for financial accountability from the Texas Education Agency.

Each year, the TEA evaluates school districts for the quality of their financial management practices through the Financial Integrity Rating System of Texas, or FIRST. For the fiscal year ending June 30, 2022, MISD received an A (Superior Achievement) for the sixth consecutive year after scoring 98 out of a possible 100 points. The district did not receive a perfect score of 100 points due to recapture increasing our liabilities at year-end since the payment is not due till August.

“I’m very proud of the Financial Services team for maintaining MISD’s high standard for financial accountability and transparency,” said Tucker Durham, Chief Financial Officer.

The MISD Board of Trustees held a hearing about the FIRST rating during its regular meeting Oct. 16, 2023. You can view the hearing here.
