August 17, 2022 — Midland ISD is thrilled to announce the addition of several new academic leaders in the Office of Learning, Leading, and Innovation (LLI), which oversees all academic initiatives in the district.
Dr. Tyrell White has been tapped as the new Executive Director of Special Services. This position oversees the Special Services department, which prioritizes meeting the academic and social-emotional needs of all students, with a focus on those with special needs.
Dr. White comes to Midland with 15 years of experience from southeast Texas, where he spent the last two years as the senior director for special services at Beaumont ISD.
"Our district is proud to meet the needs of all students who come through our doors," said Associate Superintendent Charlie Garcia. "Dr. White will be a critical part of helping us reach MISD's stated goal of reaching all learners."
Midland ISD has also hired six leaders to fill vacancies on the LLI team. Former MISD principals Christin Reeves and Tricia Teran will join district newcomers Dr. Leslie Bonds and Christie Flinn as LLI Directors. These roles work directly with campus administrators and teachers to develop programs and classroom strategies aimed at improving academic performance for all grades and subjects.
The final two new directors are Dr. Hilda Arnold (Director of Opportunity Culture) and Mark Gabrylczyk (Director of Performance and Accountability). MISD's Opportunity Culture, which incentivises experienced teachers to mentor newer educators, is already receiving statewide acclaim for its success. The Director of Performance and Accountability will serve in the Research, Evaluation, and Assessment department, which analyzes student data with the goal of identifying strategies to increase student growth.
"Each of these six new directors brings extensive administrative experience to their new positions," said Associate Superintendent Dr. Luz Martinez. "We are compiling the right team at the right time to support our important work as we look to build on our academic success."
