Carver Center named top charter elementary in Texas

Only campus in the state to achieve 90% proficiency in both math and reading

February 14, 2022 — Midland ISD's Carver Center has been named the No. 1 Charter Elementary School in the state of Texas by the U.S. News and World Report. The ranking is based on reading and math proficiency and performance data.

Carver was the only charter elementary in the state with 90% of students scoring at or above for proficiency in both math and reading. The campus finished No. 5 in reading and No. 17 in math among all elementary schools.

U.S. News recognized Carver as No. 8 out of all Texas elementary schools in its published rankings last fall, but the honor of the top spot among charter elementaries was included in the publication's campus profile.

"We are proud of Carver's history of academic success, but to earn the top spot in the entire state is an incredible honor," said Carver Center Executive Administrator Stephanie Carnett. "This recognition is a tribute to the hard work of our dedicated teachers and students."

Carver Center serves 1st through 6th-grade students who have tested into MISD's Gifted/Talented program and shown superior aptitude, advanced reasoning, and high achievement.
