MISD's Pyles Named Middle School Principal of the Year for Region 18
Honor Qualifies Pyles for Texas Principal of the Year
August 30, 2021 — Abell Junior High Principal Cyndi Pyles has been named Middle School Principal of the Year for 2021-22 by the Texas Association of Secondary School Principals for Region 18.
Pyles was chosen for this honor by her peers within the region. She is eligible to compete for the state title of Texas Principal of the Year.
"Receiving the Region 18 Middle School Principal of the Year Award is an honor, and I am blessed to work with the best team of adults and students," Pyles said.
Pyles joined Midland ISD in 2000. She taught elementary reading for two years and high school English for 14 years before moving into administration. She served as an assistant principal at her alma mater, Midland High, before becoming principal at Abell in Spring 2019.
"Education can be a challenging career, but I am continually amazed by what our staff and students accomplish each and every day," Pyles said. "Our motto at Abell is 'All-In.' I never ask anyone to do something I am not willing to do myself. I am proud of the culture and environment we are building at Abell Junior High School."
Pyles is a Midland native who holds a bachelor's degree in English and a master's in instructional leadership from the University of Texas of the Permian Basin.
Each regional winner will be recognized during the Jostens Night of the Stars awards dinner, which is held in conjunction with the TASSP Summer Institute, in Austin.
