March 4, 2021 — New Midland ISD Superintendent Dr. Angélica Ramsey is wasting no time getting to work. Ramsey, who started with the district just 11 days ago, has published a plan, which she says will help get things off to the right start.
"The plan for the first few months is of vital importance because there are complex dynamics underlying the educational, civic, and political issues impacting school districts," Ramsey said. "The activities outlined in the plan will enable me to gather a full set of background information quickly, by engaging, learning, and taking action."
Ramsey's Entry Plan focuses on fostering a culture of excellence and injecting new excitement into the District. The plan thoroughly outlines a timeline, as well as objectives and activities surrounding five specific goals.
FIVE GOALS
- Establish a collaborative and positive working relationship between the board and superintendent to ensure a cohesive governance team.
- Create a proposal for accelerating student achievement.
- Establish public trust and confidence through open, honest communication and positive relationships among stakeholder groups.
- Increase organizational effectiveness and efficiency with high accountability standards.
- Establish a clear and definitive strategy to address issues related to school safety, security, and climate for all schools.
The plan is broken down into three phases, that carry the District through October.
"Research obtained during my first 90-100 days will allow me to begin assessing the District's strengths, identify areas needing immediate attention, and focus-in on those requiring more long-range planning," Ramsey said. "I invite everyone to read the plan, and give me the benefit of your feedback." The full plan and a comment form are available on midlandisd.net.
Dr. Ramsey's first day as Superintendent was February 22. The plan was approved by the School Board at the Special Board Meeting held on March 3.
