February 8, 2021 — Midland ISD has tapped Thad Fortune to be the next head football coach for Midland High School. The School Board voted unanimously to approve Fortune at a special meeting Monday.
"I'm grateful to be here and couldn't be more excited," Fortune said. "This is just a wonderful opportunity."
Fortune comes to MHS from Odessa Permian High School where he served as an assistant coach for the past seven seasons, most recently as the offensive coordinator.
Fortune played quarterback at Anson High School and East Texas Baptist University before starting his coaching career, which included assistant coaching stops at Stephenville High School (2 seasons) and ETBU (4 seasons) before taking the job with Permian.
"I got into coaching for the relationships," Fortune said. "How you can use sports to develop young men and women to be the best they can be."
"His passion for the game and for our student athletes is unmatched," said Blake Feldt, MISD Executive Director of Athletics, who hired Fortune as an assistant while he was the head coach at Permian. "We are confident in Coach Fortune's ability to lead the Bulldogs into the future."
