August 17, 2020 — Midland ISD anticipates a strong start to the 2020-21 school year after new data show more classrooms will be filled with a certified teacher than in years past.
According to the Office of Human Capital Management, the certified teacher fill rate is at 93%, up 4% since last year and the highest rate in at least a half decade. An additional 4% of classrooms are filled with professional personnel at differing points in the certification process, which brings the percentage of classrooms covered to 97% as of Aug.10.
This bright staffing outlook bodes well for academic outcomes. "Our mission and goal is to have high quality talent in every classroom," said Woodrow Bailey, Chief of Human Capital Management. "I can't thank our principals and the Human Capital Management staff enough for their hard work during the COVID-19 pandemic in helping us recruit teachers that we know will have positive impacts on student success."
