August 6, 2019 — Midland ISD is preparing for the 2019-20 school year by hosting its Elevate! Academic Summit and Convocation this week.
The district's Elevate! Academic Summit is a two-day, districtwide event that provides professional learning opportunities and sets the stage to propel our educators forward into the 2019-20 school year with a clear focus on academics. Elevate! is 8:30 a.m.- 4 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 7, and Thursday, Aug. 8, at Lee High School, 3500 Neely Ave.
The Day 1 keynote speaker is Superintendent Orlando Riddick. Riddick will speak about the bond proposal and the Facility Master Planning Committee's 18-month-long analysis and recommendations for the school district.
The Day 2 keynote speaker is Dr. Danny Brassell. Brassell is an internationally acclaimed speaker and bestselling author of 15 books, including "Read, Lead & Succeed" and "The Reading Makeover," based on his popular TEDx talk. He is the co-founder of the world’s top reading engagement system for struggling and reluctant readers.
Convocation is the official kickoff to the 2019-20 school year where the entire district staff gathers before welcoming students back on Aug. 14. The event features spirited presentations and performances, as well as an address from the superintendent. The theme of this year's event is "Build Big Dreams."
Convocation is 8:30 a.m.-11 a.m. Friday, Aug. 9, at the Midland College Chaparral Center, 3600 N. Garfield St.
