Anita Gamertsfelder to lead Education Foundation
June 10, 2019 — Midland ISD is excited to announce that Anita Gamertsfelder has been hired as Education Foundation director. She began in her new position May 28.
Gamertsfelder has been a fixture on Midland nonprofit boards for many years. She served as president of the Junior League of Midland and was a founding member of the League’s Second Tuesday Club. She has served on the Washington STEM Academy, Carver Center, San Jacinto Junior High, Midland Freshman High School and Midland Senior High School PTAs and is a former member and past president of the Midland ISD Education Foundation board. She most recently worked as education and program coordinator for Midland County Public Libraries.
Gamertsfelder replaces longtime director Jami Owen, who along with assistant Peggy Kuss retired this year.
“It is a great honor to be joining Midland ISD as the director of the Education Foundation and to follow Jami Owen’s leadership in this position,” Gamertsfelder said. “I am proud of the work Midland ISD is doing to elevate our district, and I’m thrilled to join the team to help support teachers, students and schools. The Education Foundation is able to offer teacher classroom grants and scholarships through our fundraising efforts, and I am very excited to continue to grow our programs so we can support these teachers who are bringing innovative ideas into their classrooms.”
Gamertsfelder is originally from San Angelo and graduated from Texas A&M University and Scottsdale Culinary Institute. She and her husband, Joe Gamertsfelder, have lived in Midland for 18 years and have three children: Allison, a freshman at the University of North Texas; Luke, a Midland High junior; and Merit, who attends Midland Freshman High.
The Midland ISD Education Foundation helps guide funding that contributes to enriching innovative instruction throughout Midland ISD. Its variety of initiatives directly support academics, fine arts, robotics, science, technology, engineering, math, history and more.
