29 Midland ISD Students Selected for Midland Young Leaders Challenge
Participants Prepare for Life of Leadership
May 16, 2019 — Twenty-nine Midland ISD high school students have been selected to attend the Midland Young Leaders Challenge with Gen. Tommy Franks.
Midland ISD is proud to partner with the Gen. Tommy Franks Leadership Institute and Midland College to develop the leadership potential in our students. More than 80 Midland County high school juniors applied to the program, with only 32 moving forward.
Selected students will learn learn and practice the critical skills of persuasive communication, character and leadership that will help mold them into tomorrow’s leaders. Participants are eligible for $6,000 in scholarships that accompany the program and can advance to the national leadership conference.
Gen. Franks is a Lee High School graduate and namesake of General Tommy Franks Elementary. He is scheduled to participate in the two-day event held at Midland College. On June 12, Gen. Franks will be featured in a Q&A session where he will share his insights on leadership. He will also attend the program's celebration banquet the following day.
"The Midland Young Leaders Challenge is a highly selective program, and the students selected should be extremely proud of their accomplishment," said Jeff Horner, Executive Director of Secondary Education. "Their interest in developing leadership skills today will serve them well when they enter the workforce in the future."
