Bonham Elementary named Model PLC Campus

MISD's Bonham Elementary named Model PLC Campus

Bonham Elementary school has been named a Model PLC campus by Solution Tree, making it one of only about 300 schools in the U.S. and Canada to receive the honor.

This multi-year initiative and application process recognizes schools that have committed to professional learning communities (PLCs) to promote campus collaboration among educators.

Solution Tree, an educational professional development company, also measures student data and academic process when determining which schools should be recognized as "Model" campuses.

"To become a highly-effective team it took time to refine, but we stayed committed to collaboration and focused intently on student learning," said LLI Director Tricia Teran, who served as Bonham's principal from 2018-2022. "Ultimately, the goal is to promote student success, and this distinction is a salute to all the hard work that was put in by students and staff during that time."

Bonham's current principal, Dr. Armando Gallegos, has experienced the success of the campus first hand.

"Since my arrival at Bonham, I've seen the academic successes that have been achieved through the PLCs," he said. "We are continuing this important work by focusing on learning, collaboration, and results."

Bonham's improvement was also evident in the TEA's most recent ratings, where the campus earned a "B" rating, up from a "D" in 2019.

Midland ISD's Lamar Elementary was named a Model PLC in 2020.
