Texas Association of Secondary School Principals Region Outstanding Principal of the Year Announced

Coleman High School principal, Rebecca Medina, recognized

July 22, 2025 – Rebecca Medina, Principal of Coleman High School, has been selected to represent the Texas Association of Secondary School Principals (TASSP) as a Region 18 Outstanding Principal of the Year. TASSP recognizes outstanding principals and assistant principals from the twenty region Education Service Centers in the state. School administrators are nominated and chosen by their peers within their regions. Nominations are based upon exemplary performance and outstanding leadership.

As a Region 18 winner, Rebecca Medina is now eligible to compete for the state title of Texas Principal of the Year.

"Being recognized as an Outstanding Principal by the Texas Association of Secondary School Principals is a profound honor and a reflection of the incredible work happening on our campus each day. This recognition reaffirms my commitment to our core belief—every student, every day, whatever it takes,” said Rebecca Medina, principal of Coleman High School. “Even with the growth and progress we’ve seen, we remain steadfast in showing up daily, ready to do the work. We are relentlessly pursuing excellence—not for recognition, but because our students deserve our very best.”

Medina has been a principal in Midland ISD for 4 years. After graduating from Angelo State University, she began teaching in Dallas ISD. She then attended Lamar University where she earned a Master of Education in Educational Leadership degree. Under her leadership, Coleman High School has increased their CCMR percentage from 6% to 98%, and the campus has increased their graduation rate by 14%.

“No one is more deserving than Ms. Medina. She has created a culture of high expectations and shared values, enabling her students and staff to excel. She is a passionate leader who understands each student’s needs, and her encouragement and commitment have helped Coleman graduate a record number of students. We are so proud of Ms. Medina and her leadership,” said Cyndi Pyles, Executive Director of School Leadership.

“I am deeply blessed that my calling is also my passion, and I’m proud to lead a team that is driven by purpose, grounded in service, and committed to ensuring every student is seen, supported, and empowered to succeed,” said Medina.
