Leadership curriculum focuses on student development

October 17, 2024 — Midland ISD has implemented the iLead program districtwide. The iLead initiative is designed to equip students with leadership skills, foster personal values, and cultivate a sense of community at each campus.

The iLead program is part of a nationwide effort by the Maxwell Leadership Foundation to deliver leadership development to schools, districts, and communities. The curriculum encourages personal growth that leads to success inside and outside the classroom.

"The iLead initiative will be a game-changer for our students," sayd MISD Guidance and Counseling Director Heather Clark. "This program allows students to become role models for their peers, creating a ripple effect of positivity across our schools."

Highlights:

  • Leadership: Students will learn to lead with integrity, respect, and responsibility, helping them grow into effective leaders.
  • Growth: The program enhances students' self-awareness and improves overall well-being.
  • Community: iLead strengthens connections among students by encouraging teamwork and fostering a sense of belonging.

Research has shown that leadership development leads to increased academic success, reduced disciplinary issues, and higher overall satisfaction within schools.

"We’re excited to see how the iLead curriculum will empower students to influence their environment positively," Clark said. "This initiative will help them become better students and also better citizens."

Implementation:

  • Kindergarten–2nd Grade: Whole group lessons led by homeroom teachers with embedded small group activities.
  • 3rd–12th Grade: Hands-on workbooks allow for student-led discussions and small group activities.

The district encourages parents to engage with students about what they are learning through the iLead program.
