District Adds Proactive Layer of Protection and Situational Awareness

February 19, 2026 -- ZeroEyes, the creators of the first AI-based gun detection video analytics platform to earn the full US Department of Homeland Security SAFETY Act Designation, today announced that its AI gun detection and intelligent situational awareness platform is in the process of being installed by Midland Independent School District to protect students, families, staff, and visitors against gun-related violence.

Midland ISD serves about 29,000 students and employs approximately 3,200 staff members across 40 campuses, with plans underway to open two new high schools in August 2028. The school supports a comprehensive learning environment, spanning a diverse and growing community, backed by a strong commitment to safety and preparedness. ZeroEyes will be added to the campuses' vast layered security measures, which include keyless entry and access control, intrusion alarm systems, a Strategic Alerts system, and more, designed to help staff respond quickly and effectively in emergency situations.

“Our main priority is school safety, and we believe bringing ZeroEyes into the district enhances our ability to prevent incidents before they happen and helps ensure students and staff feel safe in a learning environment they can look forward to each day,” said Midland ISD Chief of Police Robert Doporto.

ZeroEyes' AI gun detection and intelligent situational awareness software layers onto existing digital security cameras. If a gun is identified, images are instantly shared with the ZeroEyes Operations Center (ZOC), the industry's only U.S.-based, fully in-house operation center, which is staffed 24/7/365 by specially trained U.S. military and law enforcement veterans. If these experts determine the threat is valid, they dispatch alerts and actionable intelligence — including visual description, gun type, and last known location — to law enforcement and school security teams as quickly as three to five seconds from detection.

“I commend Midland ISD and Chief Robert Doporto for making significant strides in deterring gun-related threats. ZeroEyes is proud to be a part of the district’s security approach,” said Mike Lahiff, CEO and co-founder of ZeroEyes.
