Midland ISD Breaks Ground on New Legacy and Midland High Schools

New campuses are part of Bond 2023 and scheduled to open in August 2028

Midland, TX – June 26, 2025 – Midland ISD proudly held groundbreaking ceremonies this week to celebrate the start of construction on two new high school campuses: Legacy High School and Midland High School.

These state-of-the-art facilities are a key part of Bond 2023 and represent a historic investment in the future of Midland students.

District officials, school board members, community leaders, and project partners gathered at both sites to mark the beginning of this exciting new chapter. The two new high schools are scheduled to open in August 2028 and will provide enhanced learning environments, modern facilities, and greater capacity to support Midland’s growing student population.

“This is a monumental day for Midland ISD,” said Superintendent Dr. Stephanie Howard. “These new campuses reflect our community’s commitment to excellence in education and our shared mission of preparing students to be college, career, or military ready.”

The new schools were designed by Pfluger Architects to meet the needs of 21st-century learners, with flexible learning spaces, cutting-edge technology, and community-centered design.

Satterfield and Pontikes is the Construction Manager at Risk for the Legacy High School site, and Lee Lewis is the Construction Manager at Risk for Midland High. Both firms have a strong track record of delivering high-quality educational facilities in Texas.

Bond 2023 includes funding not only for the new high schools but also for the new Lone Star Trails Elementary School and district-wide improvements in safety, technology, and infrastructure.

"This groundbreaking is the beginning of new dreams taking shape, of opportunities being created, and of students stepping into a future filled with promise," said Chief Communications Officer Andrea Messick.

Construction on both campuses will continue through the next three years, with regular updates provided to the public through the district’s website and community engagement efforts.
