Midland ISD Announces Hall of Legends Inductees

Celebration planned for cross-town rivalry football game

September 3, 2025 – Midland ISD is proud to announce the 11th class of the MISD Athletics Hall of Legends. This year’s inductees represent a distinguished group of individuals who have made a significant impact on Midland ISD’s athletic history. The Class of 2025 includes three athletes, a coach, and a special merit honoree.

 

The Class of 2025 inductees are:

 

  • John Norman: John Norman was a legendary defensive back for Lee High School from 1994-1996. He holds school records for career interceptions and single-season interceptions. He was a two-time all-state selection and went on to be a standout player at Texas Tech University.

 

  • Victoria Lucas Barger: A 2008 Midland High graduate, Victoria Lucas Barger was a decorated high jumper. She won the Class 5A state high jump title with a record jump of 6’1”. She continued her stellar career at the University of Texas, where she was a three-time All-American.

 

  • David Leaverton: A 1996 graduate of Midland High School, David Leaverton holds the Texas high school record for the longest field goal at 62 yards. He earned a scholarship as a kicker to the University of Tennessee where he was a part of the 1998 National Championship team. The Jacksonville Jaguars later drafted him.

 

  • Jennifer Mangum: Jennifer Mangum dedicated 24 of her 30 years in high school coaching to Midland ISD. She was a renowned diving coach who led multiple divers to state championships. She earned numerous District, Regional, and State Coach of the Year honors.

 

  • Ken Marks: Ken Marks was a dedicated advocate for education and youth. He was a pillar of the community for over 50 years. He was instrumental in establishing the first Fellowship of Christian Athletes huddle in the Permian Basin. He served on the MISD school board and numerous other community organizations. 

 

“This year’s class highlights Midland ISD’s rich athletic history. The inductees embody excellence, dedication, and a deep commitment to our community,” said Wes Torres, Executive Director of Athletics.

 

The Class of 2025 will be honored during the Friday, October 31st, LHS vs MHS football game at Astound Broadband Stadium.
