ConocoPhillips Helps Equip Alamo Junior High Students with Graphing Calculators and STEM Resources

September 25, 2025 – The Midland Education Foundation is proud to announce a generous $27,000 donation from ConocoPhillips to purchase graphing calculators and expand STEM learning at Alamo Junior High. This investment ensures that every 8th grade and Algebra I students have access to the essential tools needed for success in math class and on the STAAR exam.

The donation includes: the purchase of Texas Instruments TI-84 graphing calculators, as well as a comprehensive support package for teachers and students:

  • Two in-person trainings provided by Texas Instruments to equip math teachers with the knowledge to maximize the calculators’ features and support student learning.
  • A classroom set of CBR2 detectors to help students engage with real-time data and apply their Math TEKS to real-world concepts.
  • Online TI-84 calculator subscriptions for all students, ensuring they can access the calculator software at home—even without Wi-Fi—on their school-issued laptops.

“This donation is such a gift for our students,” said Jennifer Caldwell, Alamo Junior High math department chair. “With the expected increase of student enrollment at Alamo this year, making sure all students have access to the best resources and technology needed was imperative! We are so excited to be able to provide this to all of our students now! These calculators will not only enhance instruction but also enable our students to feel more confident in mastering challenging math concepts. With these tools, we can close gaps, extend learning, and give our students a real advantage for their continued success.”

The partnership with Texas Instruments ensures the tools will be used effectively in classrooms, with targeted support that aligns with the district’s math curriculum and testing standards.

“Accessible STEM education is key to our students' success and our community’s future,” said Amanda Day, Midland Community Investment Senior Analyst with ConocoPhillips. “When students are equipped with the tools to thrive today, they are prepared to be the innovators and leaders of tomorrow.”

This donation is part of ConocoPhillips’ ongoing commitment to advancing STEM education and supporting academic achievement in the communities they serve.
