Coach Burge graduated from Schreiner University with a bachelor’s degree in Sport Management and then attended Howard Payne University where he earned his master’s degree in Sport Wellness. While at Howard Payne, Coach Burge served as the Assistant Director for the campus’ Intramural Sports Program. After graduation, Coach found his way back to Midland and started his coaching career as a P.E. Assistant at Bush Elementary and Bunche Elementary. Since accepting the P.E. position at Emerson Elementary, Coach describes it as “the perfect fit”. Coach Burge is a Sport and Fitness enthusiast, and believes that learning to be healthy can not only be fun, but enjoyable. He incorporates various health topics throughout his P.E. lessons while promoting the importance of staying active and maintaining a healthy lifestyle.

Growing up in Midland, Coach Burge participated in numerous 5K races with his family, and supported as many local races as possible. Coach Burge attempts to reinforce the importance of cardiovascular and heart-healthy to his students. So in addition to these efforts, he plans to begin the Marathon Kids running program at Emerson Elementary. Marathon Kids is the perfect way for students to engage in physical activity while also earning rewards by accumulating as many miles as possible for the duration of the program. Coach plans to offer the program after school, for 30 minutes, during the Spring and the program will lead up to a local 5K race which all participants are encouraged to run in. Coach Burge sees the 5K as an opportunity for the students to witness their hard work paying off and will hopefully push them to strive for more.
