WHAT IS A SYSTEM OF GREAT SCHOOLS?
The System of Great Schools (SGS) strategy involves putting autonomous schools at the center of our change efforts and focusing on the needs of schools to meet the individual needs of students. SGS works at the community, district, and school levels to reorient our efforts with schools at the center, not the district or system. When schools don’t meet the high bar we are establishing, we will work with the community to identify innovative opportunities to ensure students are well-served. Each school will receive the support and resources it needs to provide a high‐quality education to our students.
WHAT ARE THE SYSTEM OF GREAT SCHOOLS LEVERS OF CHANGE?
Executing the SGS strategy requires districts to build new or strengthen existing capacities in six levers of change.
Establish and Administer1 Establish and administer portfolio review and planning process.
Develop and Expand2 Develop and expand great schooling options.
Help3 Help families understand and navigate their school and program choices.
Build4 Build an ecosystem of effective school support and talent providers.
Reimagine5 Reimagine central services to support school-based decision making.
Align and Engage6 Align civic partners and engage the community.
