General Guidelines – Begins 1st day of school
All standard attire clothing will follow the MISD Student Code of Conduct dress code. Shirts must be tucked in at all times. Prekindergarten students are required to wear standard attire.
Pants, shorts, capris, and skirts are to be a solid black, navy, tan or khaki twill fabric (not denim) in the style of fitted (not baggy or skin-tight legging style), straight legged dress pants worn at the waist. Shorts/skirts must be no more than 3 inches above the knee while standing, measured from the top of the slit on a skirt if present. No cargo pockets or carpenter styles, stretch material, denim, or jean material.
Shirts must be polo style or oxford style, with collars, in solid white, blue, yellow, grey, or black. Shirts must be long enough to stay tucked in. Shirts must be buttoned. NO more than the top two buttons on a shirt may be left unbuttoned. A solid white, navy, royal, or yellow, turtle neck or T- shirt/undershirt may be worn under the uniform shirt.
During cool weather a solid white, blue, yellow, grey, or black sweatshirt or sweater may be worn over the uniform shirt with the uniform collar showing. Sweatshirts must not have hoods, large front pockets, or zippers. No designs are allowed on sweatshirts or sweaters. Coats and jackets of any color may be worn before and after school or during outside recess. Leggings or tights of standard attire may be worn under clothing only in standard attire colors.
NO Jackets/Coats may be worn in class! No Hoodies.
Socks with shorts, skirts, or capris must be a solid standard attire color.
Closed toe shoes with a rubber heel are required. NO HIGH HEELS PERMITTED.
“One size rule” applies (Only one size larger than actual measurements to allow for growth).
Any distracting hair styles, hair coloring outside normal hair colors, eyebrow shaving, or accessories ARE PROHIBITED.
On Fridays, a De Zavala spirit shirt may be substituted for the regular standard attire shirt and on Mondays a college shirt may be worn.
