    12-15-20 Travel Update

Extra/Co-Curricular Travel (Including UIL and School Sponsored Programming)

UIL and Co-Curricular Sponsors/directors may plan for and schedule for Spring 2021, with campus principal approval, events requiring in-state travel not requiring overnight stays.  School organizations may attend local events with principal approval. All screening, social distancing, and safety protocols for travel must be in place.

    Athletic Events

Bands, Cheerleaders, Dance Teams, Mascots, and any other associated school troops other than the athletic team will only participate in events when the athletic team is “home” at varsity and junior varsity levels.  For varsity playoffs, troops may travel as long as overnight stay is not required and stipulations of the host site are met. Troops other than the athletic teams will not participate in indoor UIL events at grades 7-9.

    COVID-19 Safety Protocols for Travel

    1. Students and staff shall use hand sanitizer upon boarding the bus.
    2. When possible, bus windows should remain open to allow outside air to circulate in the bus.
    3. Families should be encouraged to drop students off, or carpool, to reduce possible virus exposure on a bus.
    4. Students with driver’s licenses may use the Parent Travel Consent Form when traveling within Midland and Odessa to reduce possible virus exposure on a bus.
    5. All buses will be wiped down and cleaned before and after each use. During cleaning, open windows to allow outside air to circulate the bus.
    6. Every attempt must be made to sit one student per seat.
    7. Masks must be worn on the bus and at all times.

In order to decrease the potential number of students traveling on a bus, licensed students will be allowed to travel to local events (Midland/Odessa) in their personal vehicles if the Parent Travel Consent Form has been completed and submitted to the coach/director/trip coordinator. MISD district transportation, in most cases, will be provided for events but will look much different than previous years.
