Midland ISD trustees officially acquired 16.75 acres in The Vineyard, the northwest Midland master-planned community by Fasken Oil and Ranch, as the site for Barbara Fasken Elementary School, one of three new elementary schools funded by the $163 million bond passed in 2012:  


  • Fasken Elementary opened August 2015 for the first academic year
  • Up to 800 student capacity
  • 92,500-square-foot building
  • 40 classrooms
  • 3 playgrounds
  • Serves grades Pre-kindergarten through Sixth Grade and will be adding a Bilingual program in 2016
  • Designed by Parkhill, Smith & Cooper & constructed by Lee Lewis Construction
  • 21st Century Classroom Design which includes furniture that supports collaboration, up to date technology, physical space that goes beyond the single classroom, a well-equipped Media Center (library), and lots of natural lighting. 
  • An elementary school in Laredo is also named for Barbara Fasken, who was also well-known for Fasken business interests and philanthropic efforts through the Praire Foundation
