Herzlichen Willkommen - Welcome!Robert E. Lee Senior High School is proud to offer students the opportunity to participate in German cultural and language opportunities throughout the school year. All students, especially those currently in German, are welcome to join the active German Club. In addition, Lee High School is honor to host a local chapter of Delta Epsilon Phi, the German Honor Society, for students who have met academic requirements.
German ClubThe German Club at Lee Senior High School is an excellent way to enhance the classroom experience. The club organizes and participates in a variety of activities which vary from year to year.
In the past, the German Club organized the Exchange Student Welcome Dinner, hosted a German conversational get-together for Lee and Midland High students, and attended the Mav's Night Event in Dallas. Also, the German Club has organized parties such as the Holiday Party and Senior Good-bye Dinner in conjunction with the German Honor Society. And of course, each year the German Club proudly presents its Beau and Sweetheart at the annual Homecoming Parade.
No matter what events this year's German Club decides to put on the calendar, this will certainly be a fun and active year!
Delta Epsilon PhiTexas Gamma Psi ChapterSince 1996 Lee Senior High School has been proud to host the Gamma Psi Texas Chapter of Delta Epsilon Phi, the German Honor Society for high school students. The chapter was founded by beloved German teacher, Doris Hayes, and the continuation of the organization today is a great tribute to the passion and dedication she had for her students.
The organization is overseen by the American Association of Teachers of German, and every sponsor is a member of AATG. The organization was founded by Käthe Wilson in 1968 in order to promote German language scholarship and intercultural understanding. An important element of the organization at Lee Senior High School is the organization’s active involvement in community service. Each member of our chapter completes six hours of community service per academic year.Benefits of Membership
Honor society members in good standing at the time of graduation will have received a certificate of membership, an initiation pin, and graduation honor chords. Members are welcome to purchase other items such as patches and key chains with the assistance of the sponsor.
Non-material benefits are plenty! Participation in the German Honor Society greatly enhances one's resume and impresses colleges and universities. Moreover, there are many opportunities for leadership roles.
The organization looks forward to inducting new members every spring!
