The Midland ISD Foreign Languages K-12 program, also known as Languages Other than English (LOTE), offers a variety of French, German, Latin, and Spanish classes.
Only Spanish is only offered at Elisha M. Pease Communications and Technology Academy. Pease students that pass a credit by exam have the opportunity to earn two high school credits. Our middle school program is offered at all four junior highs where Spanish I, II, and III are taught. Spanish is taught at our freshmen campuses. Freshmen also have the opportunity to take French, German, or Latin at their assigned high school campus. All four languages are offered at Midland High and Lee High. Coleman High offers Spanish and French. Our Early College High School at Midland College MISD teacher only teaches Spanish classes. Midland High School also offers a semester of Vocabulary Development Using Latin Roots.
We have been implementing the new LOTE Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills (TEKS) in all LOTE courses this year. The TEKS focus on the three modes of communication: interpersonal, interpretive, and presentational. Communication is the key to all of our LOTE courses.
