Midland ISD Health & Physical Education Vision
Every student in Midland ISD will have access to current and relative health information and a diverse range of physical activities. Every student in Midland ISD will value physical education and their health and understand that a healthy lifestyle is beneficial for all individuals.
Midland ISD Health & Physical Education Mission
The mission of our Health & Physical Education program is to instill a love of regular physical activity in our students and motivate them to take responsibility for their lifelong health.
Midland ISD Health & Physical Education Purpose
Health & Physical Education provides a structured environment where children can engage in physical activity and includes content and instruction designed to develop motor skills, knowledge, and behaviors for physical activity and physical fitness. PE teaches body movement, maintaining a healthy lifestyle, and various physical activities. Students learn the health-related benefits of regular physical activity and the skills to adopt a physically active, healthy lifestyle. The purpose is to guide teachers, parents, and curriculum planners to develop strong instructional programs.

Midland ISD Physical Education Requirements
The district will ensure:
- that Kindergarten through grade five students engage in moderate to vigorous physical activity for at least 30 minutes per day, 135 minutes per week or 225 minutes every two weeks.
- that students in middle school engage in 30 minutes of moderate to vigorous physical activity per day for at least four semesters OR at least 225 minutes of moderate to vigorous physical activity within a two-week period for at least four semesters.
- all 9-12 students earn 1.0 graduation credits in Physical Education or an approved substitution.
