2025 First Grading Period

Dear Midland ISD Parents and Guardians,

As we close out the first grading period of the 2025–26 school year, I am proud of the strong start across Midland ISD. Over the past several weeks, I have visited nearly every campus, and I look forward to finishing the remaining stops soon. Everywhere I have been, I have seen teachers setting clear expectations and students rising to meet them. I am confident we are off to a great start.

Instruction remains at the heart of our work. We are continuing to align curriculum so students experience consistent, rigorous learning at every grade level and at every campus. This includes strengthening math instruction from grade 6 through Algebra I, ensuring students build a solid foundation in mathematics before entering high school. At the junior high level, we have begun to implement our first year of STEM+M courses for our current seventh graders. This opportunity provides MISD students, who are interested in the medical field, a chance to act on their early interests and explore medical and health science careers. This initiative reflects MISD’s commitment to innovative education and preparing future healthcare professionals.

Early childhood education continues to grow as well. We are launching new initiatives to boost learning and family partnerships in Pre-K through 2nd grade classrooms. Highlights include a Pre-K Parent Advisory Committee, quarterly meetings to guide program growth, instructional slide decks for teachers, and focused training in math and phonological awareness. Families can look forward to a revamped Parent University, enhanced enrollment events, and a new Parent Boot Camp. Upcoming projects include readiness reports, a Pre-K Success Guide, summer transition packets, and expanded access through partnerships, tuition options, and targeted campus growth.

At the high school level, we are proud of the richness of our offerings. Students have access to 30 Advanced Placement courses, 21 academic dual-credit courses, 32 programs of study within Career and Technical Education (CTE), 126 unique CTE courses, and 17 free Level 1 certificate pathways. These opportunities, along with strong dual-credit enrollment, allow students to explore interests, earn college credit, and prepare for life after graduation. As the Class of 2026 enters its final year and the Class of 2029 begins its high school journey, we remain committed to our goal: All students will graduate college, career, or military ready.

We are equally focused on celebrating academic excellence at our five high schools. Two students, Gabriel Stromberg of LHS and Jillian Bejil of YWLA, were named National Merit Scholarship Semifinalists, placing them among the top scholars in the nation. Their success is a testament to their dedication and to the educators who have supported them.

Our 2025–26 Listen and Learn tour is underway, giving us the chance to hear what is working and where we can improve.  Hearing feedback from our staff remains essential to continuous improvement. Teachers have shared how our students are more engaged without the distraction of their electronic devices, and students have said they are also noticing the difference in campus environment.

Finally, I want to thank you for choosing MISD and partnering with us to  “Educate the Future with Excellence”. We have 38 active PTAs in Midland ISD with over 4,970 PTA members. This is a clear sign of the commitment parents, guardians, and community members bring to our schools. Together, we will continue to ensure that every student graduates from one of our five high schools ready for college, career, or military service.

Thank you for partnering with us to make this a year of meaningful learning and growth. Please let me know if I can help as we work together to make it a great year in Midland ISD.
