Qualifications

  • 18 years of age or older
  • 21+ to substitute at secondary campuses (JH, Freshman, HS)
  • High school diploma or GED
  • Pass a criminal background check
  • Complete an online application (with references)
  • Complete MISD substitute orientation

How to Become a Substitute

  1. Submit the online application
  2. Upload a copy of your high school diploma or GED
  3. Provide proof of right to work in the U.S. (e.g., SS card, passport, driver’s license, or permanent resident card)
  4. Complete new hire paperwork
  5. Pass the background check
  6. Attend MISD Substitute Orientation

Returning Substitutes: If you worked in 2024–2025 and signed your Letter of Reasonable Assurance by May 30, 2025, watch for emails about your annual substitute orientation.
