Gifted/Talented Referral & Appeal Processes

The G/T Parent Referral Form will close on October 31, 2024 at 11:59 p.m. No late applications will be accepted.

This application period is for all MISD attendance zone residents. This includes area private school, charter school and homeschool students.

Every nominated student will be screened to determine their eligibility for placement in G/T programming. More information regarding the G/T testing schedule will be sent in November.  

Results will be distributed in late February for elementary and early March for secondary, ensuring transparency and timely communication with families.

REFERRAL & IDENTIFICATION TESTING: 

Parents/guardians or campus staff may refer a child for identification testing during the Referral & Identification Window. The referral form is available from October 1-31. 

October 1 - 31 is the only referral opportunity for the following students: 

  • Current MISD students in grades K-11
  • Current MISD Third Party Partnership Campuses in grades K-11 
  • Current Private/ Charter School Students 
  • Current Homeschool Students

*GT Transfers- Your child must have been receiving G/T services in the district from which they are transferring. The parent must provide the documentation or the name of a contact person from the transferring district who can provide the required documents. Documentation will be reviewed, and further testing may be required to determine placement.

**Non-MISD Resident Student- Includes families that have moved to Midland after October 31 and before July 31 of the current year. Parents must contact the GT office for testing approval within 3 weeks of enrollment in MISD. Documentation of prior school records and proof of residency will be required.
