Chief Operations Officer
Cortney Smith is the Chief of Facilities and Operations for the Midland Independent School District in Midland, TX. He is currently in his 20th year in education. His career in education began in Lubbock, TX, where he taught History and served as the Head Boys Golf Coach at Lubbock High School for 10 years.
Cortney transitioned from the classroom into District Operations when he began working as an Energy Specialist in Lubbock in 2013. Serving in the same role, Cortney moved back to Odessa in 2016, shortly thereafter, he became the Director of Custodial Operations for ECISD where he served for two years. One year later he was selected as Executive Director of District Operations and served in that role for five years. On June 1, 2023 he moved to Midland ISD and was selected to his current role as Chief of Facilities and Operations.
Cortney grew up in Odessa and is a product of West Texas. He graduated from Permian High School in 1998 and holds a bachelor's degree in History from Texas Tech University. He is the proud father of his twelve-year-old daughter Lennon and his eight-year-old son Liam.
