    Rebel Debate has done it again!



    As most of you were starting the Thanksgiving Break the Debate Team was heading to West Texas A&M University where they swept the Debate side of the Tournament earning 1st place in the Varsity division and taking 1st, 2nd, 3rd, & 4th places in the Novice division against 38 other schools!  They also sent 4 people to the finals in the Individual Events giving Rebel Debate the top place for squad efficiency Sweepstakes once again!  The team is heading to McMurry University this weekend, wish them luck when you see them!

    Novembers NHS blood drive was a wonderful success.  Thank you to everyone who participated.   We collected 54 products to save as many as 162 lives.  Thanks for your support.  The next blood drive is January 22; we hope to see you there.

    The following is a Crime Stoppers Announcement:  Yesterday during 7th period a wallet was taking from a backpack.  Anyone with information regarding this act please see an administrator.  You will remain anonymous and could be eligible for a cash reward.

     Students, tickets for tomorrow’s game are available.  They are $3.00 dollars and can be purchased through the bookkeeper today during lunch, after-school and tomorrow morning only.  Remember the game starts at 4:30 and we will be on a normal bell schedule.

     PTA Reflection entries are due Friday, November 15th, by 4:30. There is a tub in the office labeled “Reflections” where the entries can be turned in. I appreciate your help in getting the word out! Hopefully, come Friday, Lee will be well represented! We will have a drawing for $100 worth of gift cards!!!!     Midland Lee Speech & Debate has done it again!  The team competed at UIL Regionals for Congressional Debate.

     

    Isabella Nieto placed 1st - Pranav Ganta 2nd, and Kaden Hahn got the Alternate spot.

     

    They will be travelling to Austin to represent Midland Lee and Region 18 at the State competition in January!

    Another amazing weekend for Rebel Speech and Debate!   The team travelled to San Angelo and competed in two tournaments over the weekend!  Seven students entered a total of 43 events and advanced to elimination rounds in more than half of them. This Thursday we will be competing in the UIL Regional Student Congress.  Wish us luck as we get ready to send some Rebels to State!

    Midland Lee Speech and Debate brought home a truckload of awards from the Amarillo Tascosa tournament on Tuesday!

    The Rebels will be back on the road tomorrow to compete against 30 schools at the San Angelo Invitational.

    Congratulations to the Midland Lee Speech and Debate team.  They took 12 students to Big Spring this weekend where they earned 20 individual medals, the Squad Efficiency Award, Top Speaker Award, and the 2nd Place Sweepstakes Trophy.  Six members of the JV team also earned their Honor Cords and membership in the National Speech and Debate Association.  

    The team will be back on the road Tuesday to compete at Amarillo Tascosa!

    Attention seniors:   Now is the time to prepare for College.  This afternoon we will be holding the first FAFSA session on campus.  Come and get your FAFSA completed in the Lee Library computer lab from 4:30-6:00 pm.   If you are unable to attend today, we have another FAFSA session scheduled this week on Thursday, October 24 in the MHS Library, from 4:30-6:00.  You are welcome to attend either session.  Midland College will have Financial Aid Advisors present to assist.  Please have one of your parents attend as both of you have information to complete.  Bring all completed 2018 income tax returns and W-2 form(s).  If you have an FSA ID number make sure that you bring that as well.  The application process can take an hour or more to complete so plan on arriving as close to 4:30 as possible.  If you have questions, contact Mrs. Gonzalez in the Library.  MHS- am at 689.1125 and LHS- pm at 689.1636.

    The Lee Rebel Culinary Arts team of Nayeli Carrasco, Rhiannon King, Aileen Munoz and Isaiah Romero competed in the first annual onsite culinary contest at The Taste of the Permian Basin and they won!!  Their yummy lasagna rolls beat out dishes from Midland High, Ector County ISD and Wink ISD culinary programs.

    This past weekend, the Lee HS Orchestra participated in our annual TMEA All Region Orchestra audition in Abilene, TX.  Lee HS placed 18 students in the all-region orchestra.  A list of their names will be posted in the office and on the Lee High School website.  We cannot be more proud of our amazing musicians!  Go REBS!

    The Youth and Government Club is looking for new members. If you are interested in standing up for what you believe in and debating with other students from around the state of Texas then the Youth and Government Legislative or Student Affairs Forum could be right for you. Our first meeting is this week on Thursday at lunch. Go by room 473 and ask Mr. Hammer for a handout. Don't just read about our government, role play a government official and become part of our government. Remember...go by room 473 for more information. 

     

    Sophomores and Juniors, Listen up!

    Now is the time to get registered for the PSAT.  We will administer the test during school on October 16th.  You will need to get signed up and pay through the bookkeeper.  The fee is $17.00 – originally, the fee was posted as $16, but that was inaccurate.

    Juniors and Seniors –

    Lee High School will also be giving the SAT on October 16 during the school day.  You may register with your English teacher, but must pay the bookkeeper.  The cost for the test is $49.50.  You will need to let your English teacher know by Thursday, September 19th that you are interested.  Payments are due by October 9th.

    The Lee varsity boys golf team won first place at the Lubbock Invitational!!!!   Players include: Paul Gomez, Cameron Lopez, Jackson Comer, Dylan Bowerman, and Eli Martinez.

    On Saturday the Debate Team travelled to Texas Tech University to compete in their first tournament of the year.The Cross-Examination Team of Isabella Nieto and Pranav Ganta went undefeated for the entire tournament winning 1st place!  The team will be travelling to Hereford High School on next Saturday, wish them luck as they get ready for their next round of competition.

    September 10th

    The Lee High Cross Country Team competed this past weekend in Lubbock. Senior Alvin Avila placed 5th out of 164 runners with a time of 17:16 at the “Pre" Lubbock Coaches Cross Country Meet. Placing 14th for the Rebels was sophomore Chris Lopez with a time of 18:19.51.  The Lee boys placed 4th out of 19 teams.

    Nayeli Galindo placed 5th with a time of 21:28. Bailey Bingham finished 7th with a time of 21:40.She was followed by Junior Hannah Long finishing 10th  with a time of 22:01. The Lee girls place 2nd.

    Juniors, a representative from Herff Jones will be here next Monday the 16th during 2nd period. 

    Seniors and Band members, remember next Wednesday the 18th, you will take your panoramic pictures. 

    One on One tutorials will start-up next Tuesday the 17th in library from 4”30 until 6:00.

    If you want to earn art graduation cords. If you want to develop your art skills, have leadership opportunities, and make art have a bigger impact at Lee, you may find your place in the National Art Honor Society.

    Requirements are that you have completed Art 1, passing all classes, wanting to acutely engage in art and willing to complete Art community services such as building the Art Homecoming float, face painting and setting up the first EVER Lee Art show.

    Senior Alvin Avila placed 3rd out of 146 runners at the Jim Ned Invite. Placing 9th for the Rebels was sophomores Chris Lopez. Freshman Samuel Gonzalez finished behind Chris and sophomore Chanler Bushman ran a PR to help the Rebel boys place 4th out of 15 teams. 

    Junior Bailey Bingham finished 3rd out of 191 runners at the Jim Ned Invite. She was followed by Junior Hannah Long finishing 9th and senior Nayeli Galindo finishing 10th.  Freshman Carla Torres, Perla Rascon and Karimme Conejo helped Midland Lee girls place 2nd out of 17 teams.

    The National Honor Society blood drive is tomorrow in the library.   If you are a minor please stop by room 502 to pick up a permit form to be signed by your parent.  

    United Blood services will have Rebel Donor T-shirts, and prize drawings for donors tomorrow.  If you have questions please stop by room 502 or talk to a NHS member.

    Girls interested in trying out for the Lady Rebels Basketball Program you must come see Coach Acosta in room 801 to get you on the tryout list before Monday, August 19th.  Tryouts are from August 19th thru August 22nd.  You must have all Physical requirements completed to tryout. 

     

    Students!!  Just a reminder that students are not allowed to park in the faculty parking lot.  Also, you must have a permit attached to your windshield in order to park in any of the parking lots.  Cars found without permits are subject to being “booted”.  Permits maybe purchased in the bookkeepers’ office before school, during lunch and after school.  Do not come down during school hours.
