    Today is the first day of MISD eLearning! Be sure to login to your google classroom accounts DAILY!

    ASSIGNMENTS & INSTRUCTION - All teachers will be posting assignments to Google Classroom every Monday at 9:00 am. Each assignment will include the instructional resources needed to complete the assignment. These resources include, but are not limited to, instructional videos, notes, presentations, websites, and links to textbooks. 

    TEACHER WORKDAY - Teachers will be conducting MISD business Monday-Friday from 8:00-4:30. Teachers set their own "office hours" (tutorial times) and will have them posted in Google Classroom. How that looks will vary from teacher to teacher and could be as simple as phone, email, and text communication; while others may incorporate discussion boards, Google Hangout Meet, Google Voice, etc. In addition to designated "office hours", teachers will answer email, texts, and calls as throughout the day as time permits.

    GRADE IMPROVEMENT OPPORTUNITIES - Teachers will be working with students to provide opportunities to improve their grade for the 5th grading cycle. Contact your teacher directly to inquire about assignment corrections, retakes, and late submissions.

    The Lee High School Chess Team lost against an experienced Greenwood team, 12 to 9, to finish tournament play 3 wins and 2 losses. Once again Gabriel Pulgor went three for three. Henry Ceu and Josh Wallace both went two for three. Faith Ausbon also decimated her third opponent for a convincing win.

    TODAY IS THE LAST DAY TO GET YOUR WRISTBAND for extra time at lunch tomorrow!  SIP will be coming around during advisory, so get your wristband TODAY!

    Chess match tonight! All chess team members and other interested people come to the library immediately after school today. Greenwood is coming to play a make-up match to complete our season. They are going out of their way to come on a Thursday, so we need to make sure we have a full team. If you can play, even if you haven't played with us before, come and join us tonight. We should be finished before 6:00 pm.

    On February 19-22 The Lee High School TAFE (Texas Association of Future Educators) competed at State in McAllen.  The Following received a Blue Ribbon (1st place):

    This past Saturday was the annual UIL art competition, known as VASE. Over 600 artworks were entered from across the region. Many students received regional medals, and of those, 32 received Area medals which advance to state in April. Lee had 14 of those 32 area medalist which was the most in the region.  A complete list of the names who qualified for state will be posted in the attendance office and on the LHS web-site.

    The Lee High School Chess Team won a tough match against crosstown opponent Midland High, 14 to 10. The victory assures Lee of a winning season, currently 3 and 1 with one league match to go. Joshua Wallace was outstanding player of the match, going 3 for 3. Other players going 2 for 3 were Gabriel Pulgor, Aeryc Andrews, Chad Smith, and Nick Summers.

    Seniors and Juniors, prom is coming up! Prom will be held at the Bush Convention Center on March 28th. The theme.... Roaring 20's. Tickets will go on sale Monday March 16th (the Monday AFTER spring break) All sophomores and non- Lee High School guests will need to be approved before ticket purchase. You can pick up an approval form before or after school in Mrs. Smith's room 603 or attendance office. 

     

    Congratulations to Lee Cheer for winning their division at Redline Competition in Houston on Sunday.  If you want to be a part of this exciting program don't forget to turn in tryout packets by this Friday, Feb. 21.  If you have any questions, see Coach Hyche in room 520

    Good news! The deadline for the LHS writing competition has been extended! Entries on our topic, "The Future," are due on Thursday, Feb. 20, by 4:30pm to room 510. If you want some last-minute help on your entry, come to the Writers' Cafe at lunch this week!

     

     

    Chess Club meets today at lunch on room 416. We need to prepare for our meet against cross-town rival Midland tomorrow.  Also we need to discuss officers.

    The Lee High School Chess Team won another convincing victory vs Goddard yesterday, winning 12 to 6. Aiden Navarette, Henry Ceu, and Aeryc Andrews all won all three of their games. Stacey Bruning, Chad Smith, and Josh Wallace each contributed a win as well. 

    The team is now 2 and 1 in league play, we play Midland next week. 

     

    Students, don’t forget to go by Mid-Cities church today for a free lunch. 

    The LHS Writing Competition deadline is coming up on Tuesday! Applications are outside room 510. If you have a draft ready, come to the Rebel Writers' Cafe in 510 today at lunch to get it looked over

    Tryouts for the 2020-2021 Dixie dolls drill team are coming up March 30- April 3rd. Packets are available on our Facebook page, the front office, and the youth center.  There will be a mandatory parent and candidate meeting in Monday March 30th. If you have any questions, contact coach Ray.

    Friday and Saturday the LHS Academic Decathlon Team participated in the Region meet.  Cole Pool received 3rd place on the Literature Test and Nico Willis received 2nd place for her Essay and tied for 1st for her Interview.  Congratulations to the team!

    Want to get something sweet for that someone special? Lee High Students in Philanthropy is selling Valentine’s Grams! The Grams will be delivered to whoever you’d like on campus by Students in Philanthropy on February 13th. They will be going to advisories to take orders all this week or you can go to portable 246a to order.

     

    Chess Club meeting today during lunch in room 416. We need to prepare for our meet against Greenwood--weather permitting-- and fill officer vacancies.

    Students, the first Thursday of each month, starting next Thursday February 6th, MidCities church down the street is planning a monthly free lunch for students and staff members of LHS.  So plan on eating lunch there next Thursday.

    Congrats to the varsity boys golf team on winning the Monahans Invitational!!!  Players are: Paul Gomez, Cameron Lopez, Jackson Comer, Eli Martinez, and Dylan Bowerman.  Cameron was second medalist!!!

    Seniors, there is a free FAFSA session tomorrow, February 1st from 11am - 3pm at the Midland College Scharbauer Student Center Testing Center.  Refreshments and snacks will be served.  There will also be a book scholarship raffle.  In order to complete your FAFSA you will need to bring one of your parents, both FSA IDs if completed, your parents' and your 2018 Tax records.  Hope to see you there

    The Lee High School Chess Team won a convincing victory last night against Midland Classical Academy, on the strength of a 7 to 1 second round. Final score was Lee 15 to MCA 8. Outstanding player for Lee was Aeryc Andrews who went 3 for 3, backed up by strong 2 for 3 performances from Stacey Bruning, Chad Smith, Gabriel Pulgor, Josh Wallace, and Aidan Navarette.  We prepare to host Greenwood next Wednesday.

    Don't forget SAT day is March 25th, last day to register is January 30th. You can have the school pay for this test and since it’s a school day, you don't have to give up a Saturday for the SAT! Forms can be found outside Mrs. Jones office in the band wing or Mrs. Wimberley in the library. 

     

    Also TSI testing is starting today, and will have test days all the way through till April 29th. Please get with Mrs. Jones or Mrs. Wimberley to get the information for those. There is no deadline for the TSI. If you are planning on taking Dual credit classes next year you must have the TSI.  If you are only going to need the TSI you can also have this payed for by the school, or you can take the test for just $25 dollars.  See either Mrs. Jones or Mrs Wimberley for more information.

    ATTENTION DUAL CREDIT STUDENTS -  Next Wednesday is the final day to pay for all of your dual credit class(es).  Students who have not set-up a payment plan or who haven’t paid for their class(es) will be dropped.  This semester Midland College is going to adhere to the drop date and will not allow students to pay throughout the semester unless they have a payment plan.  Payments can be made at the Midland College Cashier’s office, or on your MC student portal.  Payment plans may be set-up through the MC student portal as well.  For assistance logging into your portal contact the Midland College help desk at 432.685.4788 or email help@midland.edu

    The Lee High School chess team played its first ever league match against Midland Trinity yesterday. The team held its own against an experienced Trinity squad, tying the first and third rounds but coming up short in the second round. Final score was LHS 8, Trinity 10. 

    Henry Ceu is now officially undefeated in league play, having won all three of his games. 

    Our next match will be next Wednesday against Midland Classical.

    The National Honor Society Blood drive is tomorrow (Wednesday Jan 22) in the library.  Please see any NHS officer to sign up, or stop by room 502.  If you are under 17 you will need to pick up a minor consent form in room 502.   This is our last blood drive of the year.   Be a hero, save a life.

     

    Chess club meets today in room 416 during lunch. We start league play tomorrow against Trinity after school in the library. 

     

    Are you a writer? Do you enjoy putting your voice onto paper? Then submit to the LHS Spring 2020 writing competition! The topic is "the future." We invite short stories, poems, and personal essays. The deadline is February 17. See Dr. Graham in room 510 for an entry form.

     

    Speaking of writing... bring your contest entries, writing assignments, or creative writing projects to the Rebel Writers' Cafe! Our tutors are experts at helping writers achieve their vision.     Yesterday's Swim and Dive District Championship went very well for our Rebels. Both teams finished 3rd - the highest place for the girls in several years.

    We had 3 Silver Medalists, 6 Bronze Medalists and 11 swimmers qualify for Regionals.  Way to go Rebels!!!

    Registration is now open for The Citizen Bee student competition.  The Texas Citizen Bee is a statewide civic education program and competition. Students prepare for a two-part competition that focuses on a variety of civic topics including The Constitution. At the regional level students are able to win $250 for first place and the opportunity to progress on to the state competition (fully paid) with an opportunity to win $5000.   If you have any questions or want to register, please see Mrs. Hardwick in room 462.
