  • Applications are now open for this summer’s Midland Young Leaders Challenge! MYLC. This world-class leadership training event is a partnership with the General Tommy Franks Institute and Midland College and is a wonderful opportunity for students to gain leadership skills and compete for $7,500 in scholarships. Interested students should apply at midlandyoungleaders.com. The event takes place June 12-13. Applications are open for all current juniors (Class of 2025).

  • LHS Senior Artwork to be displayed at State Capitol

    Artwork created by Legacy High School senior Mariah Iacovone earned first place at last week's Texas Campus Crime Stoppers Conference. Mariah's winning piece will be displayed at the Texas Crime Stoppers office at the State Capitol in Austin.

    Henderson Principal named TEPSAN of the Year

    Henderson Elementary Principal Maxine Gonzales has been named the 2024 Region 18 TEPSAN of the Year by the Texas Elementary Principals and Supervisors Association (TEPSA). The TEPSAN of the Year is awarded to top elementary campus leaders from 20 TEPSA Regions across the state.

    LHS Mariachi Earns Perfect Score

    Legacy High School's mariachi program is headed to the state competition after earning a perfect score at regionals! This is the first year that the campus has had a competitive mariachi band.

    Congrats to Legacy High's Nicole Patel and Amulya Ganta for being accepted into Ivy League schools! These sniors are on the debate team, and both plan to study government! Nicole is headed to Penn, Amulya is going to Harvard.

The event recognized the dedication, service, leadership, and character of 43 ECHS students who have shown academic excellence throughout their high school careers.

    Carver Center named top charter elementary in Texas

    Midland ISD's Carver Center has once again been named the No. 1 Charter Elementary School in the state of Texas by the U.S. News and World Report. Additionally, Carver improved its rating among all elementary schools from No. 8 in the state in 2022, to No. 4 in the state, according to the rankings.

    Fine Arts Director receives state honor

    MISD Fine Arts Director Deb Shaw was recently named Administrator of the Year at Texas Thespians State Festival! Ms. Shaw has overseen the growth and success of fine arts departments across the district in her 18+ years leading the department. Congratulations on this well-deserved recognition!

    Midland ISD is excited to recognize four exceptional students who have received recognition from the 2024 National Merit Scholarship Program. Amulya Ganta, Fiona Li, and Ryland Matis from Legacy High School, and Nnenne Nnanna from Early College High School at MC were each named Commended Students by this nationally-recognized academic program.

    JROTC adds high-end flight simulator to arsenal

    Midland ISD's Air Force Junior ROTC program has purchased a state-of-the-art flight simulator after winning a $10,000 grant from the Midland Education Foundation. This simulator will be used as a part of aerospace science STEM courses currently offered to more than 120 JROTC students across four MISD high school campuses.

    Early College High School at Midland College has been recognized as one of the Best High Schools according to the U.S. News and World Report. The rankings show ECHS was ranked No. 141 this year out of more than two-thousand high schools across Texas.

    MISD's 1:1 technology initiative initially allowed all students to access digital devices such as an IPad or Chromebook during the school day. Now the program has expanded to allow every student have a device of their own.

    The number of MISD students to earn AP Scholar designations jumped from 49 in 2019 to 127 this year! This is a testament to the hard work of our students and staff!

    Fasken student earns state recognition as 'Student Hero'

    Congratulations to Lanie Salazar for earning the 2023 Student Heroes Award from the Texas Board of Education. Salazar is a rising sixth grader at Fasken Elementary who raises money and collects toys each year to donate to the pediatric unit at Midland Memorial Hospital. Thank you, Lanie, for making Midland a better place for all of us!

    Rising senior to participate in international space program

    LHS rising senior Brianna Ortiz is headed for Australia! Brianna is one of only five students nationwide to be selected to attend the International Science School this summer! She was accepted to the program after participating in the Higher Orbits program and a rigorous application process!

    Teresa Ramirez dropped out of MHS back in 1980 - right before she was supposed to graduate. She decided 2023 was the time to come back to school so that she could graduate with her grandson.

    LHS Life Skills teacher Kathleen Leeper has been named a finalist for H-E-B's Excellence in Education award for Leadership. The award comes with $1,000 for her and additional $1,000 for her campus.

  • Jones Elementary's Angie Aron earns Principal of the Year honors

    Jones Elementary School Principal Angie Aron has been named TEPSAN of the Year by the Texas Elementary School Principals and Supervisors Association (TEPSA). This is the second time Aron has been named TEPSAN of the Year for Region 18. Her first honor came in 2018 when she was principal at Burnet Elementary.

    Energy Efficiency Project now underway

    While you were on Spring Break, we were busy keeping our campuses ready for learning! During the break, crews installed a new cooling tower at Goddard Junior High! This is part of MISD's Energy Efficiency Project which is upgrading our HVAC systems district wide to make sure they keep students and teachers comfortable and save the district on energy costs for years to come!

  • Student experiments headed to space

    These three MHS students will soon have their science experiment tested by astronauts in space! The trio took part in the Go For Launch science program which allows students to create their own experiments while learning about space!
