Guidance and Counseling
Travis Elementary is a school that cares about every aspect of a child's life. This includes caring about his or her academics, their social skills, and their emotional well being. It is the counselor's responsibility to make sure each child receives the best possible education by improving their skills, for example, making well thought out decisions, learning to deal with emotions, and being the best they can be in everything they do. The counseling department at Travis Elementary includes a comprehensive program delivered through classroom presentations, individual counseling, and group counseling.
As the counselor, I have the responsibility of helping students who are facing personal difficulties. Family disruptions such as illness, death, or divorce may affect a child's ability to work at school, and may decrease their ability to cope during difficult times.
In addition to helping students at Travis, I also have the responsibility of helping parents. Providing parents with resources in the community is a wonderful way of assisting families and students with their individual needs. If parents have a particular concern about their child, I welcome the opportunity to meet with them to discuss the matter. Personally and professionally I consider confidentiality and ethics with students and parents to be of vital importance.
I believe it is important for the school and the home to work together. In doing so, we become a winning combination for our children. All children deserve to be WINNERS. Let's work together and make this a reality.
