 Family Walk Day for Diabetes |
Bonham Elementary See KMID's coverage on this story This year Bonham Elementary held their first annual Fitness Week. Daily announcements included information on nutrition, physical activity and diabetes. The week culminated with the Family Walk Day for Diabetes on Friday, October 12. Over 200 parents joined the students during the walk and Bonham raised over $1000 for the American Diabetes Association. Student incentives included extra recess time and free homework passes.
Bonham hosts Dance Fever Night! On March 11th Bonham over 300 students and parents danced their way to wellness. The CATCH team and the 4th grade students led the group to dance the Hokey Pokey, the Twist and others. Students received a FREE homework pass. Mrs Harper's 4th grade class and Mrs. Hall's 3rd grade class had the most in attendance and will be rewarded with a healthy snack presentation by Mrs. Galloway and Mrs. Payne. |

 Bowie Elementary |
Bowie Elementary Bowie Elementary's CSHAC Team hosted a CATCH information booth at the October PTA meeting. Nutrition information was provided to parents and students nutrition including information on school meals and the GO, SLOW and WHOA food categories. |

 Music Moves Me |
Burnet Elementary Burnet's Math/CATCH Night will be Tuesday, October 9, 2007 in the cafeteria. The Campus School Health Committee will provide information on health and nutrition.
Burnet's Spring CATCH event will be April 8th. The kindergarten classes will present, "Music Moves Me." CATCH and wellness information will be presented during the evening. |
Bush Elementary Bush held their CATCH Night September 18, 2007. Parents participated in CATCH PE activities with their children. |
Crockett Elementary "CROCKETT COUGARS CARE" Crockett Elementary's Diabetes Walk was held October 12,2007. The students, staff and family walked during scheduled PE class. During the day, the Diabetes Center of the Southwest offered blood glucose checks for any interested adult. Crockett also had a "Wall of Honor" where individuals could pay tribute to or write a message of thanks or of hope to friends and relatives that deal with diabetes. Educational material about diabetes was made available. Not only did Crockett raise over $1500 for the American Diabetes Association, but also the event instilled a caring attitude in the students.
Crockett's next CATCH event will be March 27th. |
 DeZavala Health Night |
De Zavala Elementary Family Health/Math Night at DeZavala was held October 18, 2007. Health Agencies from the community provided health information. |
 Come Ride with Fannin! |
Fannin Elementary Fannin Elementary will be hosting their annual Bike Day on September 29th. Parents are encouraged to come ride during students' scheduled PE class. Fannin's MATH night will be held October 9th. The Campus School Health Advisory Team will be providing healthy snacks and information. |
 Greathouse Dance Fever |
Greathouse Elementary See more photos here CATCH/Math night was held Thursday, October 11 from 6-7 p.m. Sports Jingo was in the music room and fun activity stations were held in the gym.
Greathouse held their CATCH Family Night, "Dance Fever" March 11. Over 125 students and parents attended and danced to 12 songs.

 CATCH Walk- A-Thon |
Henderson Elementary This year Henderson Elementary held their first CATCH Walk-A-Thon on Tuesday, November 20, 2007. Parents were asked to come and walk with their children during regularly scheduled PE times. Henderson had a super turn out with parents and children sharing in the joy of walking. Nutritious snacks were enjoyed by all who participated. |
 "CATCH Country" |
Jones Elementary CATCH Frisbee Family Night was held November 6. Information on health and nutrition was provided to families. "CATCH Country" was the theme for the January 15th PTA program presented by the 5th grade students. Ms. Wallach, Ms. Smith and Mr. Ochoa worked together to teach the students fun active steps set to country music with an emphasis on our Texas traditions. |
 Making Healthy Choices |
Lamar Elementary Lamar Elementary's CATCH Night was held November 27. The evening began with the PTA presentation, "Healthy Lifestyles" then the families moved to the gym for jump rope, hula hoops and cup stacking. The library was the place to be for information on fat in foods, healthy snacks and adult blood pressure checks. Thanks goes to Casa de Amigos for providing resources! |

Long Elementary At the Long Elementary Math/CATCH night, October 23, students and families were taught how to check heart rates. They discussed target heart rates and ways to improve heart health. |
 Hansel and Gretel Eat Right |
Milam Elementary Click here for more Milam photos Math/CATCH Night will be held October 11, 2007 from 7:00-8:00 p.m. Special activities will include fun games involving pedometers. On Tuesday, March 11, 2008, Milam second grade students presented a PTA program entitled “Hansel and Gretel Eat Right."
Milam's Family Fun & Fitness Night will be Thursday, April 24 from 6:30 - 7:30. They will have 4 fun, high energy group dances and then have fun playing volleyball, soccer, parachute play, tennis, beach volleball, jumpropes and hulahoops. |

Pease Elementary Pease Magnet held their CATCH Night October 16, 2007. GO/SLOW/WHOA activities were demonstrated.
On January 22, Pease will host their PTA Science Program and provide CATCH/Midland ISD menu information along with healthy snacks. |
 Heart Healthy Week February 18-22 |
Rusk Elementary February 12 - Our second grade students will present "A Healthy Way" a program about activity and nutrition.
Febuary 18th kicks off our Heart Healthy Week!
CATCH/Math Night will be held October 11, 2007. The CSHAC team will host a booth, "Fishy Fractions", a game using the Food Pyramind and fractions. |
 Santa Rita |
Santa Rita Elementary February 21st is Santa Rita's next school wide family function. The second grade students will be presenting a program called "Feelin' Good" that will focus on being healthy and feelin good about themselves.
Laura Douglas, RN hosted a CATCH booth during the November 15th PTA meeting. Parents were encouraged to think about the nutrition (or lack of) in the beverages students drink. Information was also provided on food labels. |
 Pitch a Pepper |
Scharbauer Elementary Scharbauer Elementary's PTA program on October 9th will be "Food and Fitness Matters." The CSHAC committee will host their booth, "Pepper Pitch" at the PTA meeting.
The next event will be May 27, "Fun in the Sun." Scharbauer will combine field day with water activities, provide healthy snacks and water. Information from the American Cancer Society on sun safety will be provided along with healthy picnic ideas and food safety. Door prizes will be awarded! |
 "CATCH" a Healthy Lifestyle |
South Elementary South's MATH/CATCH night was a tremendous sucess! An informational presentation was available all night for families to view. Information on snacks, healthy eating and ideas for active family games was provided. |
 "GO" Foods |
Travis Elementary Travis Elementary will host Math Night October 16. The CATCH team will have a booth for students and parents to taste samples of "GO" snack foods. |

 Come Walk with Washington |
Washington Elementary On November 19, Washington MSI will host a school-wide "Walk for Diabetes." The walk is planned to take place at Washington Park from 2:00 to 3:00 p.m. Money raised from the event will go to benefit the American Diabetes Association. "Fit Family Fitness" is the school's CATCH corporate sponsor and respresentatives from the organization will be in attendance to walk with the students. Parents are urged to attend and walk with the students. Also, we are very privileged to have KICK's 99.1 radio station broadcast live from Washington Park and provide entertainment while walking for this wonderful and very worthy cause!  Alamo CATCH Night |
Alamo Junior High Alamo Junior High had their first CATCH event November 13th. Information on healthy eating and physical fitness was provided. Students and staff enjoyed hockey in the gym. The Coaches also got to play a little three on three basketball against the students. I am not sure who was more worn out by the end of the night. The school also provided jump ropes and hula hoops for the students and parents to enjoy. It was a great night for all who came out. |

Goddard Junior High Goddard Junior High held their open house September 17, 2007. The CSHAC team: Rose Knight, CNS Manager; Whitney Nix and Carol Sparks, Phys Ed; and Elane Burns, RN provided healthy snacks and encouraged students to eat fresh fruits and vegetables for optimal health and wellness. |

Goddard Junior High participated in the MHS Homecoming Parade on September 27. Goddard had their very own CATCH FLOAT complete with Dancing Raisins. |
