About Dr. Sylvester Perez

Dr. Perez has completed a successful second school year as superintendent of Midland Independent School District. He has 35 years of experience in public education. The San Antonio native received both bachelor’s and master’s degrees from New Mexico Highlands University in Las Vegas, N.M. He earned his mid-management administrative degree from Texas A&I, now Texas A&M Kingsville. Dr. Perez completed his education and earned his doctorate at Texas A&M University in College Station.
He has over a decade of experience as a superintendent. He served as the superintendent of Mathis ISD and Clint ISD between 1997 and 2002. From 2002-2006, Dr. Perez served as superintendent for San Marcos Consolidated ISD.
Dr. Perez was voted Region 13 Superintendent of the Year, and was one of five finalists for State Superintendent of the Year. He is a member of the University Interscholastic League (UIL) Legislative Council, is married to Dee and has three grown sons.
