It is a fact that parents of the students who are more successful in school are actively and positively involved with them as well as with the school staff. Research suggests a few ways that parents can support successful learning at home. Show your child that you are interested in them as well as in their studies. Talk with them about school, school activities and everyday events. Encourage your child to read for pleasure and let your child see you doing the very same thing. We know that the best way for a child to improve her reading skills is to read, read, read. Try to keep a variety of books and magazines at home. Talk with your child to find out what kind of books and stories they enjoy the most. The school and public libraries as well as used bookstores are excellent sources for materials. Be sure to monitor the amount of television that they watch each day. Provide a quiet, comfortable place with adequate lighting and space for your child to study. Talk with your teachers on a regular basis. Provide support and encouragement while your child is completing homework, projects, and book reports. Remember to let them do as much of the work themselves.

All of us want our children to be successful at school. Parents, teachers, and administrators must work together in order to reach this goal.
