  • TRAIL OF TEARS....CHEROKEE INDIANS

Posted by SHERRY MCCRARY at 2/22/2013
We are just finishing up our 7th President, Andrew Jackson, our first Democratic President.  One of the saddest things that he "forced" during his administration was the Indian Removal Act and the forcing out the Cherokee Indians after they had won their Supreme Court case to remain on the lands in Worchester v Georgia.........4,000 Cherokees died on this Trail west.

  • CLASS DOJO

Posted by SHERRY MCCRARY at 2/22/2013
Today we started a new Classroom Management Incentitive called Class DOJO.  The students are excited about it and love their Avatar figures.  I did not pick out their Avatar, the program randomly selects it when their name is entered.
The way the program works is that the students will receive points for positive behaviors and they will lose points for negative behaviors.  This is a work in progress for this six weeks, but I am giving them a goal of reaching 75-100 points for the six weeks.  I am not sure at this time what exactly is attainable.
There will be awards given at the end of the six weeks for reaching certain point values.....to be determined later in the six weeks.

Each student will be given their secret code to creat their own account to monitor their DOJO points.  They may also creat their own Avatar.

Parents may also get a secret code to create an account to monitor their students behavior too.  If you would like the website and code, please send me an email to:  smccrary@midlandisd.net   and I will be glad to get to you.

If you have any questions on the Class DOJO, please let me know.  If I have your email address, the program will send you a report through email every Friday.

This semester, after finishing up the Constitution, we will study the first 18 Presidents of the United States and everything that happened in their term/s of office;  beginning with George Washington and finishing up with Ulysses S. Grant.  Our days will be packed with lots of new and exciting things for the students.  We will be moving at a fast pace and covering a lot of ground.  We have two more significant dates to cover, 1803 and 1861-1865, to go with our significant dates from 1st semester, 1607, 1620, 1776, and 1787.  I look forward to teaching your child about this period of U.S. History and I hope that I can get all of them as excited about U.S. History as I am!!
