    MATH
We are done going over the benchmark and it will be in Tuesday's blue folder.  Please don't throw it away without looking at it with you student.  It is a good resource to use in preparation for the STAAR in April.  This week we start fractions.  Try to find ways to show examples each day.  Wednesday we will participate in World Math Day.  Your child can log on and practice each day at home until Wednesday night.

    Reading/Social Studies
We will be continuing our study of fiction plot and character analysis, as well as, reviewing nonfiction text.  Reading logs will be due Friday along with the regular weeks homework because of Spring Break being the following week.

    Math
We are still going over the Math STAAR benchmark a little each day.  We are also working on multiplication and division.  Students need to memorize math facts so we can be ready for double digit multiplication.  Flashcards are great.  Please remember your student can log on any time to www.ascendmath.com and work on their math level at home.  I strongly encourage it!  Please have them do a full lesson then work on flashcards -- they also need paper and pencil to work through problems.   Finally World Math Day is coming next week -- March 6th.  We will spend their math period competing against other students around the world.  They can log on at home and be practicing and earning points for this big event.  The site is www.worldeducationgames.com.  Thanks for all the help.

    Reading/Social Studies
Monday is library day...students need chapter books, on their reading level, for numerous assignments each week.  This week we are studying three different genres; poetry, biography and autobiography and fiction.

    Science/ELA
We have started a new unit about inherited traits and learned behaviors.  We will be exploring traits of organisms that are inherited, such as the number of limbs on an animal or flower color.  We will also recognize behaviors that are learned in response to living in a certain environment.
This 6 weeks in Lang. Arts we will write a narrative paper.  We will brainstorm, fill out a graphic organizer, write, revise/edit and create our final draft.  We will also continue to cover prefixes and suffixes.

    Math
We will be working with Multiplication and Division this week.  I plan on going over the benchmark from last week, but it will take awhile.  Once I send them home please look over it and use it as a study tool or reference.  The STAAR test is scheduled for the end of April.

    Reading/Social Studies
Monday & Tuesday we will be reviewing all three types of text we have read this six weeks:  informational, procedural and persuasive.  Wednesday all 3rd graders will take a reading benchmark test.  This test is longer than the usual six week assessment and similar to the STAAR.  Thursday we will continue our study of communities.  Friday we will be working on reading comprehension and locating information within the text.

    Science/Language Arts
On Monday, kids will bring home a review sheet to study for our test.  Tuesday, they will bring home their science journal to show you what we have been doing.  Please allow your child to show you the information we have covered.  They will receive a free 100 for getting it signed and returned Wednesday.  Our six weeks Science test will be given on Thursday.

We are still trying to get our expository papers completed.  I only have a few more kids that are working on their final drafts.  This week our spelling words are about when to change the "y" to "I" and add "es" to make a word plural.
