Your child will bring home a daily report regarding behavior that you’ll be asked to look at and sign each day. From the very first day of school, I'll use a plan developed by Dr. Becky Bailey called "Conscious Discipline" (www.beckybailey.com). It is a comprehensive social and emotional intelligence classroom management plan that empowers both teachers and students. Based on current brain research, child development information, and developmentally appropriate practices, the goal of the program is to provide systemic changes in schools by fostering the emotional intelligence of teachers first and children second. Many times we've been put into the situation of teaching students without the necessary discipline skills to address the emotional and social issues of today's children. We need to know what to do and when. We need answers, new skills, and a greater understanding of the behaviors we see and are being asked to deal with. The "school family" is the core of the program which is held together through communication skills. This school family promotes pro-social behavior and both teachers and students are empowered to control themselves and to relate to others. I like the way this system works!
Each student begins the day with their name on "blue". Blue B marked on behavior sheet. First warning: Move his/her name to traffic light and a black T marked on behavior sheet.
Secondwarning: Move his/her name to traffic light, which signals "stop behavior," and spend 5 minutes in time-out. Red R marked on behavior sheet.
Third warning: Move his/her name to yellow light, which signals "wait and think again," and loss of a privilege/parents notified. Yellow Y marked on behavior sheet.
Fourthwarning: Move his/her name to green light., office referral, and call parents. Green G marked on behavior sheet.
